Privacy policy

Effective 15 October 2026

Driving Hour Tracker doesn't collect your personal information. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Your logbook lives on your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and in your own iCloud account when you're signed in to iCloud.

This policy covers the Driving Hour Tracker app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and this website. Driving Hour Tracker is published by KarmaAcademy in Australia. "We" and "us" in this policy mean KarmaAcademy.

What the app stores

The app keeps your logbook in its own database on your device:

We never receive any of this. Deleting a drive removes it, removing a route deletes its location points without changing the drive's hours, and deleting the app removes everything stored on that device.

iCloud

If you're signed in to iCloud on your device, the app syncs your logbook to your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so the same logbook appears on your iPhone and iPad. This is between your devices and Apple. We have no access to your iCloud account or its contents, and the app works without iCloud; the logbook then stays on the device alone.

iCloud is covered by Apple's privacy policy. You can turn iCloud off for the app in the Settings app under your Apple Account, then iCloud.

Sharing a logbook

Sharing is optional. If you invite someone to a logbook, they receive a live copy of the whole logbook through iCloud, including routes and notes, either to view or to add and edit drives. They need an iCloud account and the app. The owner of a logbook decides who has access and can remove anyone at any time; someone who leaves a shared logbook loses their copy. Adding a supervisor's name in Settings on its own shares nothing: it's only a name recorded on your drives.

Location

The app asks for location access only when you choose to record routes or turn on driving suggestions. You can record drives without it; the timer and the logbook don't need location.

Location points are stored only in the route of that drive, on your device and in your iCloud account if iCloud is on. Night time is calculated on the device. Routes are left out of PDF reports and spreadsheets. You can remove a route from any drive, and change location access at any time in the Settings app under Driving Hour Tracker.

Motion and fitness

With your permission, the app uses your device's motion activity to tell when you're driving, so it can suggest starting a drive and offer to finish one after you park. This happens on the device. The app doesn't store motion data; only the drive's start and finish times are kept, like any other drive.

Notifications

Notifications such as "Starting a practice drive?" are created on your device by the app. There is no notification server and nothing is sent to us.

Siri, Shortcuts, widgets and Apple Watch

Siri requests, Shortcuts, the Control Center toggle, widgets and the Live Activity are handled by iOS on your device. The app shares a small summary of your logbook, such as your hours and the current drive, with its own widgets and with the Apple Watch app on your paired watch. That summary stays within your devices.

Files you export

PDF reports, spreadsheets, backups and recovery files are created on your device only when you ask for them, and go wherever you choose to share them. A backup contains the whole logbook, including routes. We don't receive these files.

This website

This website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from third parties: no fonts, scripts or trackers. The service that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as the address and time of a request, in order to deliver the pages.

Young people

Learner drivers are often under 18. The app is designed so it collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, and has no accounts or messaging.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date.
