How the app works, answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

Getting started

Open the app, type the learner's name and the name of a first supervisor, and tap Create logbook. There's no sign-up. Goals are optional: set the total hours you're aiming for and how many of them should be at night. Night hours count toward the total, so the night goal can't be higher than the total. You can change names and goals later in Settings.

Recording a drive

  1. Tap Start drive, pick who's supervising, and start. The timer, the route and the supervisor are saved together.
  2. While recording, the drive is written to your device every 30 seconds. Pause whenever you like; paused time doesn't count.
  3. Tap Finish when you're parked. The drive is saved straight away, and you can check or edit it afterwards.

You can also start, pause and finish from the Lock Screen Live Activity, the Practice drive toggle in Control Center, Siri, or Apple Watch. Use the controls while parked.

Driving detection

In Settings, under Driving assistance, you can turn on two helpers:

These need Motion and Fitness access, Always location access and notifications. Detection is best effort: a missed sensor update never finishes a drive on its own, and you can always record manually.

Night hours

The app works out night time from sunset and sunrise along the recorded route, so it needs location access while you drive. Night is shown inside the drive's total, never on top of it. You can edit the day and night minutes of any drive. If a drive has no route, night isn't estimated and the drive is flagged so you can add the night minutes yourself.

Drives that need review

A drive is flagged for review when the app couldn't be sure about its time. The card on the drive says why:

Open the drive, correct anything that's wrong, and save. Fixing an overlap on one drive clears the flag on both.

If the app closed during a drive

Nothing is lost. The next time you open the app, the drive is recovered at its last saved time, paused, and flagged for review. Resume it if you're still driving, or finish it and check the times.

If a drive ever can't be saved, the app shows a recovery screen. The recording is kept safely on the device. Tap Try saving again, or share a recovery file so you have a copy before doing anything else. Drives you've already saved stay in your logbook.

Routes and maps

Every recorded drive shows its route and distance. Tap Open map to see where you went. Remove route deletes the location points for that drive and never changes its hours. Routes stay in your logbook and are left out of reports.

Supervisors and sharing

These are two different things.

If someone shared a logbook with you, it appears in the logbook switcher as "Shared by" their name. You can leave it at any time; the owner keeps the logbook.

Apple Watch

The watch app shows your hours and recent drives, lets you pick a supervisor, and starts, pauses and finishes drives. Your iPhone does the recording, so it needs to be nearby and reachable; a command sent while the iPhone is out of reach isn't queued. Complications show your progress and a Start button.

Siri and Shortcuts

Say any of these, or add them to Shortcuts:

Export and backup

In Settings, under Your data, choose Export and backup:

Privacy

There are no accounts, analytics or ads. Your logbook stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account. Read the privacy policy.
